Dual speed worth extra money

I had bought another brand that was cheaper and only had 1 speed and after the first use I returned it. This price was more than I wanted to spend and I really didn't want the chopper or whip attachments, but I went for it anyway because of the dual speed and power. I use this at least 2 times a week and I am pleased with the performance. The lower speed is a good way to start the process and the higher speed finishes the job. Cleaning right after use is important to avoid food buildup under the blade -it is a little tricky to get under the blade. Just follow the directions for cleaning and it's a snap.Note: the first time after using the chopper attachment I struggled to get the wand attachment to hook onto the motor portion. I thought it was defective. I just had to push really hard and then it was fine. The same thing happened the second time after using the chopper, but since then I have not had any problems at all.

Initial review excellent

My wife is the cooking expert and she was reluctant to spend the extra money for the Viking, but she now says it was worth every penny. Just the feel of it in her hand, the steady, low vibration during running, and the overall power are impressive. The only reason for 4 stars is because she hasn't used it enough to rate long term performance. The unit is easy to clean and from other reviews she chose stainless instead of white to keep the body of the unit from staining or fading over time.

Rusty water falling into food? No. Do not buy for the chopper.

This thing is terribly designed. Do not buy if you plan on using the chopper attachment. I repeat: DO NOT BUY. And Viking Customer Service is also equally terrible.I got this as a gift. I wanted to replace a lovely Braun hand blender/chopper that I dearly loved. It worked for the past ten years. But the engine is starting to go and after purchasing a replacement chopper attachment once, I figured it was time for a change. I put this blender on my wish list and was thrilled when it surprisingly came in the mail for my birthday this year.The stick blender part works fine. I never use the whisk attachment. (Who does?) It's a bit awkward getting the attachments on. It's a line up and twist. Unlike my Braun which was a simple slide in until you hear a click. The worst part is the chopper attachment. The bell shaped piece which connects the blender engine to the chopper blade is TERRIBLY designed. It is not dishwasher safe - which was fine. I hand washed it. But this is where it gets gross. When I pulled it out to use it again, I noticed immediately that the metal drive shaft that inserts into the blender was rusting and I could hear water sloshing around on the inside of the bell. I couldn't see how to get the water out. So, I went ahead and used it.I was surprised, shocked, then disgusted. This is supposed to be a top of the line Viking appliance, right? Well, someone should check their design team and see if any moms are on it. I was blending some home-made baby food when I noticed drips of rusty water sliding down from the bell into my baby food. This really grossed me out and not to mention wasted all of my time in making the food. I buy organic for my son, so imagine my reaction to seeing all of that ruined by rusty brown water dripping out of the bell and into the chopper. Save yourself the trouble and just don't buy this poorly designed machine.To top it off, I called Viking to tell them that I was unhappy with this. I wanted them to take it back. I got a cool sounding guy who not only dismissed my complaint, but would not offer any type of resolution. He said, "It's not dishwasher safe." I said, "I know, I hand washed it." (Long pause.) I had to keep asking: "So, what can I do with this?" "You can send it back to our service center...and...we can take a look at it." (Long, long, pause.) "And what is that address?" He rattled off the address. He didn't thank me for calling, but just said, "Okay?" and hung up.I would send it back to the place of purchase, but they (blinq.com) wouldn't take it back either and told me to deal with Viking. I wish this would have been ordered through amazon whose return policy/customer care is much better equipped to work with you on issues like this! (Blinq.com's customer service was terrible. You should have seen the return email. It was full of typos and bad grammar.)P.S. I added pictures to the gallery for this product which coincide with this review.
